Moonbound

What it is

Moonbound tells you what's worth looking at on the Moon tonight, when to look, and where to find it.

• • The best features to look at tonight, ranked by where the Sun is rising and setting on the Moon
• • A live view of the sky showing where the Moon is now, with its rise, high and set times
• • The next seven days at a glance, so you can plan your next night out
• • A catalog of 40 classic features, each with a photo, a map of where to find it, and its story
• • Observe mode, which recognizes lunar maria live through a telescope-mounted iPhone

Why it exists

As a beginner, it's hard to know what you're actually looking at when you point a telescope at the Moon — craters and maria blur together without context. It's built as a daily observation ritual for beginner astronomers.

Moonbound is free on the App Store for iPhone. Every part of the app works without paying, along with all the features you can see with binoculars.

Moonbound Pro is an optional upgrade for the more advanced sights: telescope targets, the six Apollo landing sites, and the seas at the edge of the Moon. If you bought Moonbound before it became free, Pro is yours for life.
